President Biden has announced sanctions on more than 500 Russian targets in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny. The sanctions are aimed at entities linked to Navalny's imprisonment, Russia's financial sector, defense industrial base, procurement networks, and sanctions evaders globally. These measures seek to increase pressure on Putin for his actions both internationally and domestically. The sanctions involve export restrictions on nearly 100 entities aiding Russia's military efforts and trade restrictions on over 90 companies. The U.S. is striving to impede Russia's access to goods necessary for weapon production while providing support to Ukraine for defense purposes.
