In a significant escalation of the conflict between Israel and Iran, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards launched a massive attack with missiles and drones on Israel during the night. Reports indicate that they fired over 200 combat drones and missiles into Israeli territory.

Most of these projectiles were intercepted by Israeli air defense systems, with assistance from the USA and the UK. Despite this, the attacks caused considerable damage and resulted in several injuries on the Israeli side.This massive Iranian attack was in retaliation for an alleged Israeli airstrike on an Iranian facility in Damascus on April 1st, which killed a high-ranking commander of the Revolutionary Guards. Iran had previously warned that it would retaliate for this attack.Following these events, Israel has been granted international legitimacy to respond with "unprecedented force," as stated by a minister. The USA has also expressed full support for Israel and has dispatched destroyers to the Red Sea. However, the Biden administration is keen to avoid a direct attack on Iran.There is a growing concern about further escalation of the conflict between Israel and Iran, which could destabilize the entire Middle East. Experts believe a massive Israeli retaliation is likely. This development threatens to push the Middle East conflict into a new, dangerous phase, with an uncertain outcome. The international community needs to act to de-escalate tensions and prevent a further spiral of violence.
